SpoVegas is a blog, and an online nickname for the writer. I’m crazy politically, managing to be in favor of light rail and free markets, socially liberal and socially conservative, fiscally liberal yet in favor of a great many good government programs. In the grand tradition of Spokane, the Inland Northwest, and the Pacific Northwest, I argue for good ideas and vote for good people, regardless of party, race, religion, or other factors. It’s all about quality and the desire to be left in private to pursue my life. Yes, it’s a grand contradiction, but such is life.

SpoVegas the word itself refers to Spokane, Washington, and one of it’s cherished (sometimes?) nicknames. Some people have credited me wiith inventing the nickname back in the mid 90′s at Washington State University after a weekend trip to Spokane. I can’t be sure that I invented it (I won’t claim credit for the invention) but I will take credit for using it for many years (before it was popular), being the first to use it as an online/blog handle.

A note on “The Hyphen”: I bought the url for SpoVegas a long time ago. Life got busy and I didn’t think anyone would buy up such a unique and semi-worthless url. I let it go for a few years, and now I”m back to blogging. Apparently it was worth a few bucks for some marketing company, and they have since rebuffed all offers for me to buy it back. I’ll keep trying. Rather than come up with a new handle/url (I’m still thinking on that) I decided to just go with the hyphen, stupid as it is.
